An Institute for Academic Excellence Professional Learning Community
Although reading comprehension is a significant predictor of college success, reading issues still challenge many college students. Whether students enter college as developmental, dual-enrollment, or transfer students within a particular program, reading concerns may arise.
The Professional Learning Community (PLC) for Reading investigates issues such as the motivation to read; concentration; concept formation, and reflection. Even though a majority of the PLC membership obtains a professional background in Reading pedagogy, the PLC finds tremendous value in the collaboration with faculty from various disciplines and areas of study. Such faculty interactions help us to create provide discipline specific resources for faculty and more successful outcomes for students.
Based on its investigations, the Reading PLC recommends reading strategies within specific courses and departments, and across the curriculum.
